2015 Banned Books Challenge

I am taking part in this banned books challenge for 2015, with the goal of being a Leader of a Revolution (which means I will have read at least fifteen banned books by December 31). Any banned or challenged book counts, so pretty much almost any book counts.

Here is my list so far – I will update as I read:

  1. Beowulf
  2. American Gods by Neil Gaiman
  3. Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
  4. Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi
  5. God Bless You Mr. Rosewater by Kurt Vonnegut
  6. Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
  7. Flatland by Edwin Abbott
  8. Richard III by William Shakespeare*
  9. King Lear by William Shakespeare*
  10. Henry V by William Shakespeare*
  11. Antony & Cleopatra by William Shakespeare*
  12. The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare*
  13. The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare*
  14. The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison
  15. Sandman Vol. 1: Preludes and Nocturnes by Neil Gaiman
  16. “Hills Like White Elephants” (short story) by Ernest Hemingway
  17. Othello by William Shakespeare*
  18. The Winter’s Tale by William Shakespeare*
  19. Macbeth by William Shakespeare
  20. The Shining by Stephen King

*This might be kind of cheating, but the entire works of Shakespeare were banned at one point or another, and I’m taking a Shakespeare class which requires me to read at least eight of his plays. I will try to read as many non-Shakespeare banned books as possible, though. I promise.
