I know we’re already three days into the month, but I’m still not convinced it’s August. I know it’s still technically summer (as the weather insists on reminding me), but August always gets me excited because fall is SO CLOSE. You all know I absolutely love all things fall. But this year it’s extra exciting because fall in Animal Crossing just looks so lovely. I don’t live in a place where the leaves change colors and everything gets a golden glow, so I’m very much looking forward to getting a taste of that this year.

But we’re not here to talk about the fact that I’m already dreaming about orange leaves. So let’s talk books! This month, I am working on two secret TBR posts (I’ve read about half the books for each one already) and will be participating in Tome Topple – I’ll have a separate TBR post up later this week. So I’m not spoiling any of those, but there are a few other books I want to get to this month, so here’s a taste of what I will be reading.

I Am a Cat by Natsume Soseki

Honestly, I was planning on reading this later in the fall. But I recently got my copy in the mail, and started reading the first chapter. I don’t think I’ve read a Japanese classic from earlier than like the 80s, so I just wanted to get an idea of just how challenging of a read this might be. And even though I was in a book slump, I had a hard time putting this down. Which I’m pretty excited about. I’m trying to finish the books for one of my secret TBR posts first, but I am really looking forward to reading more of this one.

Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert

I have a lot of heavier reads on my list this month (including some massive nonfiction books), so I am anticipating needing a break with some romance. I read Get a Life, Chloe Brown earlier this year and loved it. This one centers around Chloe’s sister, Dani. I don’t even really know what it’s about, but I am definitely going to read it.

I picked up my copy from one of my favorite indie bookstores: The Ripped Bodice. This is totally not an ad or sponsored, but I really love them – the owners are just so cool and nice, and it’s such an incredible little store. So, if you’re looking to pick up some new romance reads, please consider supporting them (I get nothing from you clicking the link above, but you get the satisfaction of supporting an amazing indie bookstore). They also have their own line of “trope tea, which I love. Highly recommend “There’s Only One Bed”, which is a really nice Earl Grey.

The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett

I know this just came out, but I have still been meaning to read it for months. It’s been sitting on my shelf pile of books since it was released. I’ve heard amazing things, and it just sounds like a great book. Also, I feel just a little bit guilty that I’ve had another Brit Bennett book on my shelves for like four years and still haven’t read that one, either.

This isn’t even close to my full reading list for this month, but it’s all I’m going to share for now. My Tome Topple TBR will be up later this week, and my next secret TBR post is coming hopefully next week.

What’s on your August reading list?
