Weekly Wrap Up – June 21

I have been in a mini reading slump. It’s not a full slump, where I don’t read anything. But I haven’t been in the mood to read that much. And I’ve been forcing myself to pick up books. Which isn’t the best. But that’s where I’m at right now. I meant to finish at least three books this week, but I ended up only reading one. At least I finished something, right?

What I Read

The book I read this week is Sin Eater by Megan Campisi. This is a new release that I honestly hadn’t heard of up until a few weeks ago. I picked it up for this month’s “secret TBR” post, in which I read books based on a certain theme and write about them. (Post will be up Friday – so feel free to try and guess what it is in the comments!) I ended up really liking this one! I didn’t really know what to expect going in, but was pleasantly surprised. Like I said, I’ve been struggling to pick up books lately, but this one managed to hold my attention. Always a plus in my book.

Keep an eye out for Friday’s post to read more of my thoughts. And see which other books I read (or will be reading this week) for this fun post!

What I’m Currently Reading

I have two books to mention this week (both of which I planned on finishing already – oops). The first is Stamped from the Beginning: A Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America by Ibram X. Kendi. This was already on my reading list this month (for another upcoming secret TBR post), but I believe there is currently a readathon going on for this book! I think it’s also free on a few audiobook services, and Spotify. I’m currently listening to the audiobook and really enjoying it.

You probably already know that I’m a history buff, and love everything history. So this book is perfect for me. I am honestly learning so much, and I love it. But it is one of those books I can only handle in small increments. Not because it’s dense or boring (it’s actually pretty interesting and engaging for a history book). But because racism genuinely makes me angry. So I have to take breaks so that I don’t explode. I’m still loving this so far, thought. Highly recommend!

The second book I’m reading is Mexican Gothic by Silva Moreno-Garcia. I fell in love with Moreno-Garcia’s writing last year with Gods of Jade and Shadow. So, obviously I was excited to get my hands on this one. I’m hoping to finish it today to have a review up tomorrow (when will I learn to stop doing everything at the last minute?). It is pretty slow, but I am definitely intrigued. Strong Rebecca vibes with this one.

That’s it for this week! I hope you’re all having a great weekend and reading some great books! I’d love to hear what you’re reading this week, so leave me a comment down below!
