At the beginning of the year, I published a post all about the upcoming movie & TV adaptations I’m excited about. And, of course, I forgot quite a few of them. I also found out about quite a few more that have since been announced. So, naturally, this required a second post. So here are some more movie and TV adaptations I can’t wait to check out:
Green Knight. I cannot believe I forgot to include this in my first post, so naturally I had to make a second post to talk about it. Because Sir Gawain and the Green Knight! This medieval literature nerd is so happy. Also, it has Dev Patel as Gawain, and I can’t handle it.
Normal People. I read this last year – my first Sally Rooney book – and really enjoyed it! It’s being made into a TV series for Hulu and BBC, and it looks really great. I liked how much it focused on real people with real issues, and I’m curious to see how they adapt it. (Note: I wrote this post before Normal People was released, and I haven’t watched it yet, but I’ve heard great things.)
Hillbilly Elegy. Netflix is has been coming out with so much content lately, and this has been added to the list. Starring Amy Adams and Glenn Close, which is pretty much all I need to know. I just finished the book, and while it wasn’t my favorite, I did enjoy it. Honestly, I’m expecting the movie to veer off from the book, but I’m definitely curious.
The Personal History of David Copperfield. I don’t exactly hide the fact that I’m not a Dickens fan. BUT, this movie looks so good, I’m willing to give him another chance. Maybe if I like the film, I’ll be able to get through one of his books. Maybe.
The Luminaries. I have not yet read Eleanor Catton’s book, but I’m pretty sure it’s been on my TBR for like eight years. This might be one of those that I finally pick up so I can watch the film when it’s released. (It worked for The Goldfinch last year…)
The Stand. I think adaptations might just decide a lot of my reading this year. Because I haven’t read Stephen King’s novel (yet), but I’ve heard great things. And the cast of this adaptation looks absolutely amazing. So maybe this will be my Halloween read this year. I got through It last year, I can read The Stand this year. Right?
Dune. I have not yet been curious enough to pick up Frank Herbert’s enormous sci-fi classic. But the cast of this film might just give me the motivation I need to attempt to read it.
The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue. I somehow was unaware that HBO is adapting this (I am definitely going to be subscribing to HBO Max the second it’s available), but I am so excited! I loved this book, and the series is going to be SO MUCH FUN!
I’ll Be Gone in the Dark. Yet another HBO adaptation I hadn’t heard of (until literally this week). I loved Michelle McNamara’s true crime novel about the search for the Golden State Killer, and am so excited that they’re making a documentary series, with footage of McNamara that was shot before she died. I watched the preview and it looks awesome, so I will definitely be watching this one! I think it’s going to be on regular HBO (not HBO Max, so if you don’t subscribe, you’ll still be able to watch this on June 28.)
I have a feeling I’m going to be watching a lot more TV and movies this year, because these all sound so good. What recently announced adaptation are you most excited about?
