It’s bad enough we’re in the last month of the year, but now that’s halfway over. Time is going by way too fast and I have too many books to read! But let’s talk about the books I actually did read this week.
First, I finished Devil on the Cross by Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o. I enjoyed this one. It wasn’t a favorite, but it was good. It was a little (or a lot) out of my comfort zone, but I’m glad I decided to pick it up. It’s an important novel in Africa and has had a large effect on post-colonial African literature, which is not something I have a lot of experience with, but definitely want to explore some more.
Then I read Sing, Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward, which I’ve had on my shelves for very long time. It’s always nice to cross of another TBR book. This was an interesting book, but I had trouble connecting to it. I liked the magical realism elements and thought the story itself was good. I’m not sure what kept me from loving it as much as I wanted to.
As for current reads, I am almost done reading The God Game by Danny Tobey. I probably could have finished it yesterday, but this book is INTENSE. I will be finishing it the day this goes up (so I might be done by the time you’re reading this). A review will be up tomorrow, so if you want to find out more, head back soon.
That’s it for this week! I hope you’re all having a great weekend! What are you hoping to read in the last few weeks of the year?
