Weekly Wrap Up – August 11

Weekly Reading Wrap Up

Why oh why do I always wait until the very last minute to write my wrap ups? Maybe this week I will finally learn my lesson, because I read FIVE books, and now I have to talk about all of them. So let’s just get right into it.

The first book I finished this week is Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, which I really liked. It wasn’t a favorite, like I was kind of expecting from reading all the reviews, but I thought it was really good. You can read my review of Eleanor Oliphant if you want to hear more of my thoughts on this one.

Then I picked up Obsidio by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff, because I really needed to finish this series (finally). And I didn’t love it. I had a hard time with this one. I honestly thought it was a little boring, and it just didn’t seem as cool as the first two. I was definitely underwhelmed.

But then I read some new favorites, the first of which is Catherine the Great: Portrait of a Woman by Robert K. Massie. I LOVED this book. It’s one of the best biographies I’ve ever read, definitely top three. Catherine was such a fascinating figure, and I’m so glad I learned more about her. Because I love her so much. She was a total badass in so many ways. I highly recommend this one.

Next, I read Get Well Soon: History’s Worst Plagues and the Heroes Who Fought Them by Jennifer Wright. And if you think I didn’t laugh out loud through this entire book, you’d be wrong. Wright gives the history of plagues in a way that is both soberingly real, and absolutely hilarious. The humor made this book amazing, but I also learned a lot (and am now extremely grateful for modern medicine, even when it sucks). I loved this.

Finally, I read A Keeper by Graham Norton. I actually just finished this maybe an hour or two before writing this post, so I’m still sorting out my thoughts, but I did really like it. It’s the kind of family drama I enjoy, but felt completely new. I should have a review up tomorrow (fingers crossed), so check back then.

I don’t have any current reads at the moment, but I think today I’ll be picking up Dark Age by Pierce Brown (because I really need to read it before someone spoils it for me). I’m honestly just not excited about it as I thought I’d be, but hopefully I get back into it quickly.

I hope you all had a great week! What are you reading this weekend?

  1. Thanks for your weekly wrap up. I have never been an avid reader, I force myself to read. Its more difficult just now because of my cataracts. I did buy a book this week that was recommended to me – Ladies in Black – Madeleine St John.
