Happy Sunday everyone! Who else is really nervous about the Battle of Winterfell? Because I’m scared. But since we still have a few hours to wait before everyone dies and we all get our hearts broken, let’s just talk about books! This week, I finished three books. So not a terrible reading week.
The first book I finished was The Soul of an Octopus by Sy Montgomery, which I really enjoyed. I will admit I didn’t love it quite as much as I was expecting, but it was still really great. I learned a lot about octopuses (that it’s not “octopi”, for example). I’ve read two Sy Montgomery books this year, and I really enjoy how she discusses the consciousness of animals in a way that’s really impactful.
I was starting to feel a bit slump-y, so I picked up my fool-proof slump buster: Harry Potter. I haven’t re-read these in years, and am so glad I decided to pick them up. I read the first two books this week, and started on the third. A re-read of the series is definitely past-due.
As for current reads, I am still working on Anna of Kleve by Alison Weir, which I’m really hoping to finish today. It is turning out to be a bit slow, but I’m still enjoying it quite a bit. I didn’t know very much about Anna of Kleve, so I am excited to learn more about Henry VIII’s fourth wife.
I’m also still reading The Psychopath Inside by James Fallon. I did put this on hold for a bit, but I’m planning on finishing it this week. Mostly because I want to get it over with. (I’ll discuss my thoughts on this book once I finish it.)
Finally, I am currently in the middle of The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. And I have a lot of feelings. This book is destroying me, but I love it. But I have a problem: I broke a cardinal rule of reading. I purposely spoiled myself, because this book was giving me too much anxiety and it’s too long for me to patiently wait to see what would happen. And I have no regrets, because I had a good night’s sleep instead of anxiously trying to speed through this book to see what happens.
That’s it for this week! I’m hoping to finish all of these very soon, because they’re stressing me out. And then I’m going to read a happy, fun book to distract myself. Or maybe a book about dinosaurs (it’s not stressful if I know how it ends).
I hope you’re all having a great weekend! What are you reading this week?
