Choose the Next Fantasy Book I Read!

A few months ago, I let you choose the next YA book I added to my TBR. Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy ended up winning by a narrow margin, and I really enjoyed reading it. I also loved seeing all the responses to that post, so I thought it’d be fun to do it again!

I’ve been meaning to read more fantasy this year, and I have plenty of books on my TBR to choose from. But for some reason, I haven’t been picking them up. I’m planning on finishing my read through of the entire works of Shakespeare later this month, so May seems like a great time to tackle some fantasy. Here’s your chance to decide which of these ends up on my May reading list. And I’ve finished all of my monthly TBRs so far this year, so I HAVE to read it.

I’m choosing five books – all you have to do is vote in the comments (or
tweet me at @biblioadvntrs) by April 30, and I’ll announce the winner in my May Reading List post on May 1.

The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. I have come very close to starting this multiple times, but have almost constantly been reading another big book. But, I’m anticipating finishing The Pillars of the Earth in early May, so this could very well be my next big read. I’ve heard such good things!

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon. It’s true. I have yet to read a Samantha Shannon book. I do own the first three in this series, so if you think I should read The Bone Season before I read The Priory of the Orange Tree, you can vote for this one. (I am planning on reading them all, I just need to actually do it.)

Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman. This is one of the few Gaiman books I have left to read (and I think the only one of his novels I haven’t read). I’ve been meaning to read it for years – ever since I read American Gods – and just never got around to it. Despite the fact that I own two copies (they’re different editions, okay?).

The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang. I’ve heard mixed reviews about this one, but I’m still curious. I also picked it up during a Barnes & Noble sale last year, so it’s just been sitting on my shelf somewhere in a giant pile of books.

Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi. You might recognize this from my YA poll (it didn’t win, obviously, but it came close). I do want to read it this year, and I’m curious to see if it’ll come out on top this round. Plus, the sequel is out soon (because I will of course not read it right away).

Alright! Start voting! Which one of these books do you think I should read next month?

Just a reminder, you can vote in the comments, or by tweeting me at

  1. I also haven’t read any Samantha Shannon yet and I have both of yours listed on my TBR .. so my vote is for Bone Season. Maybe you reading it will jump start me ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I unfortunately wasn’t pulled into the world of The Bone Season and couldn’t finish it. But I’m quite interested to maybe give Priory of the Orange Tree a try! Need to read The Poppy War as well, I’ve heard nothing but good things about it.
