Audiobooks on My “To Listen” List

I no longer participate in Top Ten Tuesday – I really enjoyed it, but it just wasn’t working out with my blogging schedule – but I was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of people talking about audiobooks for this week’s TTT! You all know I’m a huge fan of audiobooks – check out my audiobook of the month for March! – and I’ve talked a lot about audiobooks I’ve loved, so I thought it’d be fun to share a few that I’m planning on listening to!

Here are a few audiobooks I’m looking forward to listening to soon:

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, narrated by Cassandra Campbell. So many people have recommended this, and I was specifically told to listen to the audiobook. So I am. The Reese Witherspoon book club picks have been somewhat hit or miss for me, but I have high hopes for this one. I think I might start it right after I finish listening to A Gentleman in Moscow, which was another audiobook recommendation from a friend.

How to Be a Good Creature and The Soul of an Octopus written and narrated by Sy Montgomery. I have both Sy Montgomery books in my Audible library, and am really excited to listen to them. I’ve heard amazing things about The Soul of an Octopus, and How to Be a Good Creature just sounds like a fun book about nature. It’s short and explores the personalities and quirks of thirteen different animals.

The Odyssey by Homer (translated by Emily Wilson), narrated by Claire Danes. Confession: I have never read The Odyssey. Or The Illiad. But this new translation is getting a lot of praise, as is the audiobook performed by Claire Danes. The Odyssey was meant to be performed, so I think it’ll be a great way to experience it for the first time.

To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf, narrated by Nicole Kidman. I’ve been meaning to read more Virginia Woolf, and To the Lighthouse seems to be one a lot of people love. I’ll be honest: I have listened to a few chapters of this already, but set it aside because I wasn’t really feeling it. But now that I have a good feel for it, I want to try it again when I’m in the right mood.

Bad Blood by John Carreyrou, narrated by Will Dameron. I’d heard about the whole Theranos thing back when it came out, but I didn’t know too much about it. After watching HBO’s The Inventor, I need to know more, specifically: how Elizabeth Holmes was even allowed to get that far. And since everyone has been raving about this book, and I can’t wait to read it.

The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. This one is probably not the best idea, because it’s a 40 hour audiobook, but I need to read it, and I feel like this’ll be the best option. Because if I can listen to the biography of Alexander Hamilton, I can do this, right? (Also, my physical copy is at the very bottom of a book stack as tall as I am, and I just don’t have the energy to get it out.)

I’m not sure when I’ll be getting to these, but I’m hoping for sometime this year. Unless, of course, I get distracted by shiny new audiobooks. Which will inevitably happen at some point.

Do you listen to audiobooks? Are there any you’re planning on listening to, but haven’t yet? Let me know in the comments!
