This week may have been not that great, but it was a pretty decent reading week. I was planning on reading more this weekend, but, to be honest, I’ve been in a bad mood for the past few days and don’t really feel like reading much. But, I still managed to read four books this week, so not too bad.
The first book I read this week is The Waking Forest by Alyssa Wees. I’m not going to talk about this one too much because I’ll have a full review up tomorrow, but it was a solid young adult fantasy novel. Not quite my cup of tea, but I can see people really enjoying it.
Then I read My Lovely Wife by Samantha Downing, which is a great thriller! I enjoyed this one a lot. It was difficult to put down – definitely a page turner. I think this is going to be really popular when it comes out later this month. (Stay tuned for my full review.
This week, I also read Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy. I won’t lie, I didn’t have very high hopes for this one – I didn’t think it was going to be bad, I just wasn’t expecting too much more than the standard contemporary YA book. But I enjoyed it quite a bit. I really liked the movie, and I have to say, the book was definitely better. I can’t remember the last time I liked a contemporary YA book this much, and I’m glad I finally got around to reading it.
And, finally, I crossed another Shakespeare play off my list: The Comedy of Errors. This one was a little bit disappointing, because, for some reason, I was expecting to really like it, and it was just okay. solid three stars, but nothing special.
As for current reads, I am still working on Einstein (are we surprised?). I’m enjoying it a lot, but I’m also considering taking a short break to listen to a different audiobook for a while, because it’s just really dense.
I’m also working on The Butchering Art by Lindsay Fitzharris. I’m really enjoying this one so far, but it’s not the easiest read. I mistakenly brought this to work to be my lunchtime read, and quickly discovered a book about Victorian hospital conditions was not something I should read while eating.
I’m also reading The Girls in the Picture by Melanie Benjamin. I’m not very far in yet, but I am liking it. It reminds me a little bit of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, and I’m hoping I end up enjoying it just as much.
Finally, I needed a book to read on my phone (because I always need a book to read on my phone), and randomly chose to read Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. This is one of those books that’s been sitting on my TBR for ages (February 2014, according to Goodreads), and I figured, why not? The story isn’t something I normally read, but the writing is easy to read, and I like it so far. I’m hoping to finish this one in the next day or two, because I’m excited to cross it off my TBR (finally). Hopefully I’m in a better mood to read.
That’s it for this week! I hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend. As always, be sure to share what you’re currently reading in the comments!
Have a great week!
