Quote of the Week

You might know I’m almost done working my way through the complete works of Shakespeare (only six plays left!). I recently read Measure for Measure, and while it isn’t my favorite play, there were a few quotes I really liked, this one in particular:

Our doubts are traitors,
and make us lose the good we oft might win,
by fearing to attempt.
– William Shakespeare, Measure for Measure

I let my doubts hold me back far too often. It’s something I’m working on, and this quote is a great reminder of that. Imagine how much we could accomplish if we didn’t constantly doubt ourselves. I’m guessing a lot. Personally, there’s a lot more I want to do with my life, and, if I want to do all of those things, I need to not let self-doubt stop me from trying.

What did you think of this quote? Is there a quote from Shakespeare that you love?

  1. This is all to relatable! Sometimes all we need is that burst of courage or recklessness to spur us forward and ignore that gnawing doubt in us. It’s not something I excel in, so let’s hope we may find the courage in unexpected places!
