This was a pretty good reading week. I started off kind of slow but it definitely picked up, and I ended up finishing a grand total of two books. This week, I had a lot of issues finding the right glasses prescription I need (and getting glasses that were not defective), but I can finally read again! And hopefully that means I can get back into the swing of blogging. There are way too many fall posts I need to get done. But, for now, let’s just get into the books:
The first book I read this week is A Simple Favor by Darcey Bell. I will admit the Instagram ads for the adaptation got me, and when I happened to come across the book on Book Outlet, I decided to read it before I saw the movie. This was an interesting reading experience, because I kind of hated the characters, but there were so many twists and turns I couldn’t put this down. The writing wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t anything special either. I was surprised by how much like Gone Girl this was, and I’m very curious about the movie.
Because Vengeful is coming out in two days(!), I decided to reread Vicious by V. E. Schwab. This was one of the first Schwab books I ever read three years ago, and I definitely needed a refresher. And I loved it just as much this time around. I cannot wait for the sequel!
As for current reads, I have two books I’m actively reading at the moment. The first is Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to read it, because it’s amazing. I have a little over an hour left of the audiobook, so I will be finishing it this week, and I can’t wait to see how it will end.
I am also currently reading Impeachment: An American History by Jeffrey Engel, Jon Meacham, Timothy Naftali, and Peter Baker. This is an interesting history of impeachment in the US. I was fairly familiar with Richard Nixon’s impeachment – I live within a few miles of the Nixon Library, and had my fair share of field trips there as a kid – but not so much with Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton, so I am learning a lot from this. I also really enjoy the shade this book throws at the Commander of Cheese (Google it if you haven’t heard that one). Fingers crossed I can get a review up in the next week or so.
That’s it for this week! I hope you’re all having a great weekend. Let me know what you’re currently reading in the comments!
