It’s time again for another book haul! July was kind of a weird month for me book buying-wise, because I didn’t get any books from Book of the Month OR Book Outlet. What? I know. I can’t remember the last time I did a haul without either one of those. But none of the BOTM books spoke to me, except one, which I’d already preordered. But I did buy a few books from Amazon and Target, so at least I have something to talk about this month.
Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik. This was my most anticipated book of the month, so I had to preorder it (which is why I didn’t get it from BOTM – I needed it right away). And it was amazing! I absolutely loved this, and it ended up being a big part of bringing me out of my reading slump. Check out my review of Spinning Silver if you’re interested in reading more.
Bright We Burn by Kiersten White. I grabbed a signed copy of this at Target, so now my trilogy is complete! We’re just not going to talk about the fact I’ve read none of them yet. But I have a feeling I’m going to love these, and now I can binge the entire series.
Developmental Editing: A Handbook for Freelancers, Authors, and Publishers by Scott Norman. In case you missed it, I started my own editing business – check it out here! – and, since it’s been a while since I finished grad school, I wanted a bit of a refresher, so I picked up a few books about editing. Plus, I’m a big believer in continuous learning, so my goal is to have a little mini editing reference library. And this is the start.
What Editors Do by Peter Ginna. This is the second book I added to my editing collection (I do have quite a few from grad school already). And yes, I know what editors do. I bought this because it goes into the business of editing, and that’s definitely something I want to know more about.
And that’s it for this month! Can you believe I only bought four books? And two of them were for work? Don’t worry, I just placed a Book Outlet order, so there will be a decent August haul.
What books did you add to your library in July? Let me know in the comments!
