Weekly Wrap Up – June 10

weekly wrap up

This has been a particularly long week, but I feel like I am finally getting back into reading, which I am super happy about. It doesn’t feel like such a struggle to pick up a book. I’m just keeping my fingers crossed it keeps getting better.

The first book I finished this week was Providence by Caroline Kepnes. I had high expectations for this, because I loved You, but it just felt a little bit flat for me. I didn’t love the story (possibly because I haven’t read the Lovecraft book it seems to be influenced by). It almost felt like something Stephen King might have written, but I think he would have done it better. You can read my full review of Providence if you’re interested.

Then I read Black Klansman by Ron Stallworth. This is a fascinating memoir about a black police officer who infiltrated the KKK in the late 70s. It wasn’t the most exciting thing I’ve ever read, but it was really interesting. And I will definitely be seeing the adaptation when it comes out.

As for current reads, I finally got back into audiobooks and am a few hours into I’ll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara. I’m not sold on the narration, but the story and writing are both really great! Glad I decided to pick it up.

That’s it for this week. Really hoping I get back into my normal reading/blogging routine soon.

What are you reading this weekend?

  1. I loved I’ll Be Gone, but I read it on paper. I wonder if I would have found it so terrifying if I were listening to it. I’m interested to read the epilogue now that they have caught him.

    1. I’m really enjoying the audiobook. For me, it’s definitely terrifying because it’s very close to home. Two of the victims worked where I work now, and I’ve been to all these places in So Cal. So it’s kind of freaking me out.

I’m curious to find out more about how the caught him, and why he did what he did.
