This was another really great reading week. I finished a total of four books, two of which I read in just a couple of days. I’m really happy with my reading this week, and I’m starting to get my motivation back to read and blog, so hopefully I’ll get back to my regular schedule, too.
The first book I read is Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinsborough. I’ve had this for a while, but finally decided to pick it up since I’ve been in the mood for thrillers lately. I really enjoyed this one for the most part, but I have mixed feelings about the ending. It was definitely unexpected, but I’m not sure I liked it. Still, I did enjoy the book overall. It was a fun thriller and a quick read.
Then, I finally finished Middlemarch (even though it’s not March anymore). I liked it, but it was hard to love when I didn’t like one of the main characters. I did really enjoy the story and a few of the other characters, though. Definitely had a much better experience with Eliot this time around (after attempting to read The Mill on the Floss in college).
I also finished the audiobook of The Fact of a Body this week – read my review here. Unfortunately, this wasn’t a favorite. I wasn’t a fan of the storytelling method and it just didn’t quite work, in my opinion.
Fortunately, my last read of the week was an instant favorite. The newest installment in Alison Weir’s Six Tudor Queens series, Jane Seymour: The Haunted Queen was just as amazing as the first two, and I flew through nearly 600 pages of historical fiction in about twenty-four hours. I am obsessed with this series, and can’t wait for the next one. I’ll have a review up a bit closer to the release date (May 15).
Now, onto my current read. I am actually only working on one book at the moment (I know, who am I?). And that book is The Judge Hunter by Christopher Buckley. I’m a big fan of the humor Buckley injects into historical fiction, and this book is no exception. I’m really enjoying it so far, and I’m hoping to breeze through the rest in time to have a book review up tomorrow.
That’s it for this week! I hope you’re all having a great weekend. As I’m writing this (Saturday afternoon), I’m about to get ready to go see The Quiet Place and I am really excited. Have any of you seen it? What did you think?
