Weekly Wrap Up – February 4

weekly wrap up

It’s the first wrap up of the month! I can’t believe we’re already a month into 2018 – this year is going to go by way too quickly. But, I am happy to report, my reading pace has stayed really great going into February, and I read four books this week!

The first book I finished was Life, the Universe, and Everything by Douglas Adams. This is the third book in the Hitchhiker’s Guide series. I am currently in the process of listening to them on audiobook and finally completing the series. I love the first book, liked the second, and thought this was was just okay. (Hopefully that trend doesn’t continue for the next two books.) It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t exactly exciting. I liked some parts more than others, but overall it was a bit meh.

Then I got bored at work one day and ended up reading two Shakespeare plays online (so it would at least look like I was working). First I read the play I was planning to read this month, Much Ado About Nothing, which was so much fun. I think it’s probably in my top 5 so far. And then, because I still had four hours to kill, I decided to knock another one off my list and randomly selected Pericles. This one wasn’t a favorite. I liked the story, but thought it was way too long. Still, two down! (Eighteen to go…)

Finally, I finished Duel with the Devil by Paul Collins, which is about one of the first murder trials in America, in which the defendant was represented by both Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr. This was such an interesting story, and the book itself read almost like fiction. I really enjoyed this one, and would definitely recommend it if you’re looking to read more about Hamilton.

As for current reads: I am still working on Circe. I’ve realized this is just one of those books I want to take my time with, and that’s okay. It is beautifully written, and I am very much enjoying the story. I just want to savor it.

And, on a whim, I picked up The Perfect Nanny by Leila Slimani this week, and read a decent amount of it yesterday. I’m not sure what I think of it yet, but I’ll be sure to update you all. Hopefully, I finish it later today.

I think that’s it for this week. I hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend!

What are you currently reading?

  1. I’ve only read the first Hitchhikers Guide book and while I did enjoy it, I probably won’t continue on. I hope you enjoy the rest of the series though! I’m currently reading 1984!

    1. People need to stop comparing every single thriller to Gone Girl. I’m currently reading The Perfect Nanny, which is supposedly “the French Gone Girl” and I don’t think it’s living up to the hype.
