It’s FINALLY time for the first holiday book tag of the year. I found this one on The Terror of Knowing (which you should definitely check out, because Emma is awesome). This tag is different than any of the holiday tags I did last year, and I love Christmas music, so I’m pretty excited about it.
“You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch”: Name a villainous character you couldn’t help but love.
I’ve only read the first book in the Grisha trilogy, but I loved The Darkling.
“All I Want for Christmas is You”: Which book do you most hope to see under your Christmas tree?
Well, the one thing I know I’m getting (because I bought it for my parents to give to me) is the box set of the Mistborn trilogy, which I am very excited about. I put it on my Christmas list last year, and didn’t get it, so I had to take matters into my own hands, because I need to start this series.
“Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”: Name a character that overcomes major obstacles and learns to believe in themselves.
It took me a long time to come up with an answer, but I finally settled on Celie from The Color Purple. She overcomes so much to find herself, and it’s so satisfying when she does.
“Santa Claus is Coming to Town”: a) Which character do you think would be on the top of the naughty list? b) Which character do you think would be at the top of the nice list?
This one’s difficult, because I tend to read books with more morally grey characters. I think Professor Umbrage is definitely at the top of the naughty list (for obvious reasons). And I’d put Pericles from The Song of Achilles at the top of the nice list.
“Frosty the Snowman”: Which book just melts your heart.
One book that always makes me feel warm and fuzzy is Pride and Prejudice. I just love it. And I think it’s time for a reread.
“Feliz Navidad”: Choose a book that takes place in a country other than your own.
I recently read Trevor Noah’s Born a Crime, which takes place mostly in South Africa, and loved it. It’s a really great memoir, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
“It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”: Which holiday themed book do you use to spread the Christmas joy?
I think the only holiday themed book I’ve read and enjoyed is Augusten Burroughs’s You Better Not Cry. Yes, there is a flashing Santa on the cover, but it’s good, I swear.
“Sleigh Ride”: Which fictional character would you choose to spend the holidays with (doesn’t have to be a love interest!)
If you’ve been reading my blog for any period of time, you might already know my answer: Neville Longbottom. He’s been my book boyfriend since I was twelve, and also I think a magical Christmas would be really fun.
“Baby it’s Cold Outside”: Which book that you didn’t like would you sacrifice to a fire to warm yourself up in the cold?
It pains me to say this, but I did not enjoy The Bear and the Nightingale at all. It disappointed me so much because I was so sure I’d love it. I’m debating whether or not to keep my copy, but I don’t think I’d miss it.
“Do You Hear What I Hear”: Which book do you think everyone should read?
This is a hard question, because I don’t think there’s one book that everyone will like. But I think I’m going to have to go with We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
I hope you enjoyed this post! If you’d like to do this tag, consider yourself tagged.
What’s your favorite Christmas song?
There are so many great songs but I really like Winter Wonderland and The Christmas Song.
