Weekly Wrap Up – December 3

weekly wrap up

I definitely just typed November in the title of this post, because HOW IS IT DECEMBER ALREADY? Anyway…

This was a pretty great reading week. I read a total of four books, which I’m very happy with. I also started reading two books that are unexpectedly turning into favorites. I’ve been reading like mad because 2017 is almost over, and it’s paying off. I just have like fifteen more ARCs.

The first book I read this week is Henry IV Part I by William Shakespeare, which was my Shakespeare play of the month. I wouldn’t say it’s the best play I’ve read, but I did really enjoy it. Richard II is one of my favorites, and it was fun to find out what happens next. I’m planning on reading Part II this month.

Then I read The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden (finally), and it was a bit of a disappointment. I was convinced I’d love this book, but I just had a really hard time connecting with it. Because I was so sure I would like it, I had already requested a copy of the sequel, The Girl in the Tower. Admittedly, it was better, but still not my cup of tea. I’ll have a review of both books up tomorrow.

Finally, I read The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson for the second time. I think I enjoyed it a bit more this time around, and had a lot of fun reading it. I highly recommend the audiobook, which is read by David Armitage (I will listen to any audiobook read by him). I’m glad I revisited this one.

Now, onto the current reads! First is Lab Girl by Hope Jahren, which I’m listening to on audio. I am enjoying this memoir a lot, and am so happy I picked it up. I’m maybe a quarter of the way through, and I am hoping to finish it soon.

I am also reading Green by Sam Graham-Felsen, which is due out next month. I wasn’t expecting much out of this, and for the first few pages I didn’t think I was going to like it at all, but I’m actually really enjoying it. It’s not really the type of book I gravitate towards, but I’m glad I gave it a shot. I think it’s going to be really big next year. If you want to hear more, keep an eye out for my review – it should be up in the next couple of weeks.

That’s it for this week! I hope you’re all having a great weekend. Let me know what you’re reading in the comments!

  1. Four books in a week???!! That’s incredible! I’ve always wanted to reread Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, I vaguely remember the story when I read it years and years ago. I’m sure I will love it more now that I’m older and loving dark, mysterious classics even more.
