Since it’s ninety-five degrees in Southern California today – UGH – I thought it would be the perfect time to do the Finally Fall Book Tag. If only to remind myself that it actually is fall. I was tagged by Emma at The Terror of Knowing to do this tag, which was originally created by Alina aka Tall Tales. Thanks Emma!
In fall, the air is crisp and clear: name a book with a vivid setting!
I would have to go with The Night Circus by Erin Morgernstern (which also happens to be the perfect fall read, in my opinion). The atmosphere is just so alive and colorful, especially since it literally takes place in a black and white circus. Love it.
Nature is beautiful… but also dying: name a book that is beautifully written, but also deals with a heavy topic like loss or grief.
The book that immediately popped into my head is A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. It is one of the most beautiful novels I have ever read, but it’s also absolutely devastating. I cried for at least two hundred pages. It’s been at least a year since I’ve read it, and I still think about it (and have to talk myself out of rereading it because I was depressed for days afterwards).
Fall is back to school season: share a non-fiction book that taught you something new.
I’m going to go with Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson, because it is a great book and I learned more about astrophysics from it than from anything else. And I’ve read A Brief History of Time (it just went over my head a little bit).
In order to keep warm, it’s good to spend some time with the people we love: name a fictional family/household/friend-group that you’d like to be a part of.
The Weasleys, hands-down.
The colourful leaves are piling up on the ground: show us a pile of fall-colored spines!
I am too lazy to deal with taking a picture right now, so you’re just going to have to close your eyes and imagine it.
Fall is the perfect time for some storytelling by the fireside: share a book wherein somebody is telling a story.
I really love the way this is done in the Kingkiller Chronicle, particularly The Name of the Wind. Excellent series, I can’t believe I put it off for so long!
The nights are getting darker: share a dark, creepy read.
One I read recently that is totally underrated is The Dark Half by Stephen King. I wasn’t totally sure what I thought of it at first, but I think it might be one of my favorite Stephen King books.
The days are getting colder: name a short, heartwarming read that could warm up somebody’s cold and rainy day.
It’s probably not something everyone will like, but Robin Sloan’s Sourdough made me feel warm and fuzzy for days. Fair warning: it also had me craving sourdough bread for an entire week.
Fall returns every year: name an old favourite that you’d like to return to soon.
It’s been a while since I’ve read Harry Potter, and I think I need to fix that soon.
Fall is the perfect time for cozy reading nights: share your favourite cozy reading “accessories”!
A fuzzy blanket, oversized cardigan, and a warm drink. And a cat, if one of mine will deign to sit with me (without trying to eat my book).
Spread the autumn appreciation and tag some people!
I’m going to take whoever wants to do this tag! Be sure to link back to this post so I can make sure to check out your posts.
Happy (fall) reading!
I used to loove reading in bed with my cat… when he’s only sleeping and not scratching all over my leg he looks adorable ❤

Hahaha. They’re great to read with when they aren’t destroying things.

Yay for the Weasleys! They just sum up the idea of being cosy to me.

Astrophysics for people in a hurry is great. I listened to it and the author himself actually reads it. His voice is so calm and nice…and it did not feel like learning at all. 😀

I did, too! It was so relaxing.

I totally agree about the Night Circus, I think it has the best setting of almost any book I’ve ever read

It’s the best. I’ve already read it once this year and I want to again. (It totally reminds me of fall, but I never end up reading it in fall.)

If I didn’t have so much to read right now, I’d definitely be rereading The Name of the Wind. Love it!
I hope you enjoy Astrophysics, it’s such a great book!
