Weekly Wrap Up – October 22

weekly wrap up

Yet again, I have had an extremely busy week and am writing this at the very last minute, so it’s going to be a short one. Despite my slower reading pace, I managed to finish two books this week.

The first is Titus Andronicus by William Shakespeare. I actually really enjoyed this one. It was bloody and brutal, but also kind of great. When it comes to the Bard, I tend to like tragedies the most, and this was no exception. I’m glad I ended up reading it this month.

Then I finished Before the Devil Breaks You, which is book three in Libba Bray’s Diviners series (I believe there is going to be one more book). I’m still processing my thoughts about this one, but, overall, I thought it was good. I’m a bit miffed about the number of cliffhangers we’re left with, especially since the books in this series take a while to be released. And I kind of didn’t like the characters in as much in this one, which was disappointing. However, I do think the plot was pretty good and fit the series well. I’m excited to see what happens in the final book.

As for my current reads, I am a little over halfway through An American Family by Khizr Khan, which is excellent! I’m hoping to finish it today so I can have a review up for you tomorrow (the book comes out on Tuesday). I can already tell you this is going to be a five-star read for me.

I was listening to the audiobook of The Master and Margarita last week, but I wasn’t really feeling it – I think I need to move to the physical copy – so I decided to put it on hold for now, and got the audiobook of Uncommon Type by Tom Hanks. I was really excited about this one (I also got a signed copy from BN), and I am definitely enjoying it so far. These are some of the best short stories I’ve read in a while, and I’m really glad I picked it up. Plus, I think I’d like any book if Tom Hanks read the audiobook. Just saying.

Finally, I read a few pages of The Dark Half by Stephen King, which is my Halloween read this year, and am definitely excited about it. My first impression was really good, and I can wait to dive further into it.

I hope you all had a great week. Comment below and let me know what you’re reading this weekend.

  1. I’m also looking forward to reading Uncommon Type. I’m hearing good things — not just a publicity stunt. I’ve tried twice to get into Master and the Margarita. I really want to want to read it but I don’t know why it’s so hard for me to get going on it.

    1. So far, it’s really good. I didn’t even think of it as a publicity stunt – I know Hanks loves writing on his typewriters all the time haha.

And I don’t know what it is about The Master and Margarita… my eyes glaze over and I just cannot pay attention to the story. Some day I’ll finish it. Mostly because I’m stubborn.
