Weekly Wrap Up September 10 – I Read Three New Releases

weekly wrap up

This week was the last week of The Reading Quest, which is kind of sad, because I feel like it was a big reading motivator for me lately. I really enjoyed it, though, and had a great week. (If you want to see how I did, check out my Reading Quest Mini Blog.)

I read three books this week, and I loved all of them. They all happen to be 2017 releases, which may be a first (I need to get back to my TBR pile next week.)

The first book is All Our Wrong Todays by Elan Mastri. This book is brilliant and completely different than what I was expecting. It is the perfect mix of science fiction and a fun character-driven story. I really enjoyed this one, and think it would be a great introduction to anyone looking to get into sci-fi.

Then I picked up Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire, which was just as good as the first book in the series, Every Heart a Doorway. It was so fun getting Jack and Jill’s backstory, and I hope we get the same for all the other characters, because I need those stories. I just really love the idea of this series, and I’m enjoying it a lot.

Finally, I read Sourdough by Robin Sloan. This is a new release that I picked up on a whim, and ended up loving. It is quirky and fun and interesting and I was completely surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Honestly, I do love baking (and eating) bread, so I think that played a part, but I also thought the story was just really great. This might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it certainly was mine.

I just finished Sourdough last night, and haven’t had a chance to pick something else up yet, but I did also start a book of essays by Sloane Crosley this week called I Was Told There’d Be Cake. I was drawn in by the title and the cover, but this might be a slow read for me. I don’t dislike it, but I haven’t been excited by it yet. We’ll see what happens.

I hope you’re all having a good weekend. And I hope you and your families are safe from all the fires and hurricanes hitting the US right now. It’s going to be a tough weekend (and year) for a lot of people.

And if you’re reading something great this week, please be sure to share it. I always love getting recommendations.

Happy reading.

  1. I have Every Heart a Doorway so I am glad to hear the second book is jjst as good. It looks really good. I am currently reading The Twelve which is the second book in The Passage series by Justin Cronin. I feel like most people have already read this series. It is really good so far. Have a great week!

    1. I hope you enjoy Every Heart a Doorway! It’s different, but really good.

And I am not one of the people that have already read The Passage series haha. But I want to – I’ve heard great things!

  2. I’m so happy to see you enjoyed All Our Wrong Todays. I read an excerpt of it quite awhile ago and loved it and I’ve been meaning to pick up the book. I’ve seen surprisingly little about it from the blogs I follow. 😛
