Thanks to The Reading Quest, I have been reading a ton lately. Last week I finished five books, and this week, I did almost as well with four. I am really happy with the amount I’ve been reading lately, and I’m hoping to keep it up even after the readathon ends. Because there are way too many books I need to get to.
The first book I read this week is The Princess Saves Herself in This One by Amanda Lovelace. I’ve been hearing really great things about this book, and I absolutely loved it! I don’t read a lot of poetry, but this collection was great, and I’m looking forward to the next one. Highly recommended!
Because I enjoyed William Ritter’s Jackaby so much last week, I ended up reading the next two books in the series, Beastly Bones and Ghostly Echoes. While I liked both books, Ghostly Echoes is definitely my favorite in the series so far, and I cannot wait to read the conclusion. I just have to wait until I reach the Knight’s quest path (hopefully soon) because it’s serving as my book with a red cover.
Finally, I also read These Shallow Graves by Jennifer Donnelly, which has been on my TBR for a while. I’ve heard pretty mixed things about this one, but I liked it a lot. I have been really into these darker, Victorian YA novels lately, and this definitely fits the bill. I’m a huge fan of feminist themes in young adult literature, especially historical YA, and that is one of my favorite elements of this book.
Now, onto my current reads! This week, I decided to give The Magician King by Lev Grossman another shot. I initially picked it up right after reading The Magicians about three years ago, but just wasn’t into it. I didn’t like that so much of what happened in book one was undone. But it’s been a while since I’ve read the first one, so I think I can get through book two this time around.
And, finally, I started reading The Raven Boys yesterday. I’m not very far in, but I am enjoying it so far. It definitely drew me in quickly, and I know I’m going to finish this fairly quickly, because I need to find out what happens!
That’s it for this week! I hope you’re all having a great weekend. Be sure to let me know what you’re currently reading in the comments! I love hearing about new books from all of you each week!
