Weekly Wrap Up – August 6

weekly wrap up

I’ve been so into Tome Topple this weekend that I completely forgot about my Weekly Wrap Up. It was bound to happen at some point, right?

This week I somehow managed to read four books. Which is even more insane considering I’ve been buried in The Wise Man’s Fear for the past few days. They were all books I enjoyed, two that have been sitting on my shelves for a while, and two I received ARCs of. And, since I want to get back to reading (I am going to attempt to finish The Wise Man’s Fear today), I’ll just get into the wrap up:

The first book I finished this week is Woman Enters Left by Jessica Brockmole. I wasn’t quite sure if I was going to like this – the first line is not my favorite – but it ended up being a lot better than I was anticipating, and I really enjoyed it! I will have a full review up tomorrow, so keep an eye out for that.

Then I decided to pick up a short book I could finish before Tome Topple, so I went for Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton. Even though I wasn’t quite sure what this was about when I started it, but it’s been on my TBR for a while. I’m glad I finally got around to it, especially since it was less than 100 pages, and turned out to be such a quick read. Definitely not my favorite classic ever, but I enjoyed it, and now I’m looking forward even more to Edith Wharton’s other novels.

Since I finished Ethan Frome so quickly, I needed another quick read before Tome Topple, so I picked up Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire. And it is every bit as good as everyone has been saying it is. I know there are companion novels about some of the characters (honestly, I need one for Nancy because the Underworld sounds so beautiful), and I will definitely be reading them. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Somewhere in there, I also managed to finish an ARC of On the Spectrum by Jennifer Gold. I requested this book because I was curious about a YA book that deals with a young boy on the autism spectrum. And honestly, I loved it. I thought it deals so well with autism and eating disorders and social media and the effects parents can have on their children without even realizing it. I thought it was just a really great YA novel, and definitely one I’m glad exists, because I think it can help a lot of people. I’ll have a review up a bit closer to the release date (September 12th).

Obviously, I am currently participating in Tome Topple, for which I am reading The Wise Man’s Fear. I’m also currently working on finishing up Alexander Hamilton – I’m almost done, you guys! If you’re interested, you can check out my Tome Topple Mini Blog for updates and reading progress.

Also, be sure to enter my Twitter giveaway for The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue if you’re interested! I will be announcing the winner Saturday, August 12th.

I hope you are all having a good weekend. As always, let me know what you’re reading in the comments!

    1. I’ve only got about 320 pages left! I’m not particularly enjoying the part I’m at right now, but I’ve really liked the rest of it so far.

I hope you enjoy Every Heart a Doorway! It was really great.
