Weekly Wrap Up – June 25

weekly wrap up

It’s weird that this is the last wrap up of June, right? Time has been flying by even faster since I got a full-time job, and I don’t like it. And, speaking of time, I only have about three minutes to write this, so let’s just get into it.

I only finished one book this week, but I absolutely loved it. On a whim, I picked up the audiobook of Neil deGrasse Tyson’s newest release, Astrophysics for People in a Hurry. And I was so much more into it than I thought I would. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to pay attention to an audiobook about science, but it was great! It was fun, and informative, and narrated very well (by Neil deGrasse Tyson himself). I thought it was the perfect level of scientific for anyone who doesn’t know a lot about science, and things were explained in very relatable ways. Honestly, it was better than A Brief History of Time. (Sorry, Stephen Hawking.)

After I finished Astrophysics for People in a Hurry, I started another audiobook I was a bit apprehensive about: Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow. I usually try to listen to audiobooks around 10 hours or so, because my attention starts to wane after that. I listen almost exclusively in the car, so a ten-hour book takes be about two weeks to get through. So I put off starting this book because the length was intimidating, especially for a history book with the potential to be a bit dry. But I realized I probably wasn’t going to get to the physical book anytime soon, so I thought I’d try it anyway. And I was pleasantly surprised! I did speed it up a bit (to about 1.5 times), but it is keeping my attention, and I’ve been looking forward to my commute every morning.

I’m also currently reading Lost Boy by Christina Henry, which is amazing so far! I am really trying to finish it today so I can have a review up for you tomorrow. Christina Henry is officially the master of retellings in my mind, and I cannot wait to see what happens in the rest of this book.

This week I came very close to finishing Paul Beatty’s The Sellout, but will definitely finish it in the next couple of days. I’ve been reading it at work during my lunch breaks. And it is one of the strangest and funniest books I have ever read. I think one of the blurbs on the back calls it “satire at its finest”, and I 100% agree with that.

I have a couple of other books in my “currently reading” pile, but I don’t think I touched them this week, so hopefully I’ll get to them next week. Because there are a few I really need to finish soon.

I hope you’re all having a great week! Let me know what you’re reading this weekend in the comments!

I’m off to girls’ night to (finally) finish watching The Handmaids Tale. I’ve read the book, so I know what happens, but I am nervous anyway. Have any of you watched it? What did you think? (No spoilers, please!)

P.S. Check out my Instagram to see my first big Book Outlet haul since getting my new job (aka a steady paycheck). I’m really excited about it!

P.P.S Also let me know what you think of my new blog schedule – I tried something new this past week, and I think it might work! Reviews on Mondays, and other posts Wednesdays and Fridays. I just don’t have the time for two reviews a week anymore. (Sad, I know.)

Thanks for reading!
