Weekly Wrap Up – March 26

weekly-wrap-up

It’s been a very long week, and I honestly haven’t felt like reading all that much lately. Luckily, audiobooks exist, so I was able to finish a book this week on my commute to work. So this week’s wrap up is basically going to be a mini review of that book, which is: Unfiltered by Lily Collins.

I’ve been a fan of Lily Collins for a long time, and I’ve been really into celebrity memoirs lately, so it seemed like a book I would love. And in a lot of ways, I did love it. But, I just don’t think this was the perfect book for me. While I enjoyed reading (or listening to) it and learning more about her life, I think this book was meant for readers who are a bit younger, and maybe haven’t learned the same lessons. I am the same age as Lily, and though I haven’t gone though many of the same things (my parents aren’t exactly famous, for example), I’m old enough to have learned the lessons she imparts in her book. At twenty-eight, I’m no longer struggling with the things I did in high school, and do have wisdom to share. Lily is in the same boat, and that’s what she does with this book. So it just didn’t have the impact on me it would have if I were younger. However, I really enjoyed the writing and the stories, and think this is a great book for any young woman to read.

Today, I’m going to see Beauty and the Beast (for the second time), and then I’m hoping to finish reading Waking Gods by Sylvain Neuvel (the sequel to Sleeping Giants), because I need to get a review up for that one soon. I also started If We Were Villains by M. L. Rio, which I can’t wait to get into. I actually have quite a few books for review, so expect a lot of book reviews in the next couple of weeks (hopefully).

As always, let me know what you’re reading this weekend!

P.S. I have my first job interview since finishing grad school this week, so keep your fingers crossed for me! I need a good job so I can buy more books. Obviously.

  1. Ooo If We Were Villains sounds so intriguing, I can’t wait to see what you make of it, and I might have to add that one to my TBR.

Needing a good job so you can buy more books? So, so relateable – I wish you the best of luck with your interview! I have an interview this week too, for a job that’s vaguely in the field I’m interested in, so I’m super nervous but kind of excited in a weird way? I have my fingers crossed for us both haha. 🙂

    1. Thanks! I should have a review for IWWV up soon(ish). Good luck in your interview, too! Mine is not even close to the field I’m interested in, but it’s a job that will let me buy books, get my own apartment, and write, so that’s okay. Don’t be too nervous – I’m sure you’ll do great! I’ve got my fingers crossed for both of us, too 🙂

      1. Oo great, I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for the review and look forward to hearing/seeing your thoughts on it.

Thanks, haha, I’m mostly low-level anxious about it but I just need to keep telling myself that I have a job right now and there’s not anything to lose if I don’t do well at interview.

Hey, having a job that lets you buy books, get your own apartment, and write is ALWAYS something to chase – I really hope the interview goes well for you and you get to achieve those goals! 🙂

          1. In a weird way, I think the needing to find something kind of makes you up your game, you know? 😛 I’m sure you’ll be fine, give it your best shot, and it’ll work out I’m sure!
