A little over a year ago, I published a list of some of my favorite audiobooks. Since I’ve listened to plenty of amazing audiobooks since then, I thought it was time I shared a few more of my favorites.
Misery by Stephen King, read by Lindsay Crouse. My one reading tradition is to read a Stephen King book every Halloween, and this past year, I decided to go with Misery. I really enjoyed the story, but I think Lindsay Crouse’s narration definitely helped. She somehow managed to create a picture of Annie Wilkes in my mind that wasn’t entirely Kathy Bates.
Nutshell by Ian McEwan, read by Rory Kinnear. It’s probably not the easiest thing in the world to voice a sarcastic, wine-loving fetus. That’s right, the narrator of this book is still in utero. Which is where he overhears his mother and uncle plotting his father’s murder.
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, read by Tim Robbins. Last year, I wanted to read some Bradbury, and I thought I’d revisit Fahrenheit, since it’s been a very long time since I’d read it. Tim Robbin’s voice is perfectly suited to this story, and I really enjoyed his narration. If you want to read (or reread) Fahrenheit 451, this is a great way to go.
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, read by Thandie Newton. Speaking of celebrity narrators… Thandie Newton is incredible. I’m a huge fan of hers (Westworld anyone?) and I’m a bit obsessed with her narration of Jane Eyre. It was so good, I went out of my way to spend more time in the car, so I could listen to it without getting distracted. And it made me fall in love with Jane Eyre all over again.
Scrappy Little Nobody written and read by Anna Kendrick. I love Anna Kendrick, and was so excited when I saw she was coming out with a book. And even though I got a hard copy, I decided it might be fun to listen to the audiobook, and I was right. If you like Anna Kendrick, this is a must-read, and I highly recommend the audiobook. Because it kind of feels like you’re friends, and she’s telling you her life story.
Norse Mythology written and read by Neil Gaiman. This is a new release, and I actually just finished the audiobook last week. I’m a huge fan of Neil Gaiman, especially when he reads his own audiobooks. His voice is nearly as magical as his writing, and it makes every book even better. I loved that this book was short stories about the Norse gods, and it made for a very quick read (listen).

You should check out The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman- though you may already have 🙂 I LOVED that audiobook.

I actually did listen to that audiobook and loved it, too! Basically, if it’s Neil Gaiman, I’m going to love it.

No one reads books like Neil Gaiman. (I also highly recommend Neverwhere and The Graveyard Book if you haven’t read those, yet.)

I haven’t but I’ve been meaning to so I appreciate the recommendations: )

I totally agree about Anna Kendrick’s book-loved listening to it! And another one I loved even more was Lauren Graham’s Talking As Fast As I Can.

I actually read the hard copy of that one, which I really enjoyed. Though I do want to listen to the audiobook at some point, because I’ve heard great things and it’s so short.

The audiobook that got me into audiobooks was William Shakespeare’s The Empire Striketh Back. It’s Star Wars Episode V, rewritten in iambic pentameter. And it’s recorded like a full radio play, as if it were being performed at the Globe. I had so much fun listening to it!

That sounds fun! Those books have been on my TBR for a while, but I’ll definitely go for the audiobook now 🙂

Knowing Neil Gaiman reads it, I knew I had to pick it up. I loved your first part of this and I am so glad you did a second one! You also convinced me to convince my library to get an audiobook of Lincoln in the Bargo 😀

That’s awesome! I’m currently listening to The Night Circus (because I’ve been wanting to reread it for a while), but I think I’m going to get Lincoln in the Bardo next. It looks so good!
