I have a bad habit of collecting series I haven’t started reading yet. It’s a problem. Usually, I do my research and am pretty sure I’m going to like a series. But sometimes, I don’t. And then I’m stuck with a box set of books I don’t want to read. I haven’t read any of the books from the series below. But I own most of the books in them, so I really should read them. Right?
Here are the series I already own and want need to actually read this year:
The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon. I have the first two books in this series, because it seems like something I will really like. I’ve been in the mood to read more fantasy lately, so I’m hoping to get around to this one (because if I like them, I need the matching edition of the third book, because I hate cover changes).
The Memoirs of Lady Trent by Marie Brennan. I recently picked up the first three book in this series because I found them all for about $2 each and couldn’t pass them up. I’m not entirely sure what they’re about, other than that they are fictional memoirs and involve dragons. But I’ve heard great things about them, and can’t wait to jump into the series.
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. I have both of the novels in this duology, and have heard nothing but amazing things about them. The reason I haven’t picked them up yet is because I want to finish the Grisha trilogy first (and I kind of spoiled myself on the series ending halfway through the second book, and I’m not happy about it, so it’s slow going).
The Archived by Victoria Schwab. I’ve read almost all of Victoria Schwab’s books, and this one’s been on my TBR for months. By which I mean, I’m pretty sure I had this on my November 2015 TBR. So, it’s been a while. I’m intrigued, so I don’t know why I haven’t read it yet. It needs to happen.
The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen. I bought the first book right after it was released and then never read it. Which didn’t stop me from buying the second book when I saw it on Book Outlet. I need to start this, because I am weirdly tempted to buy book three, which just came out, and I need to make sure I like this series before I do that.
Are there any series you want to start this year? Let me know in the comments!
In the middle of Crooked kingdom and I’m enjoying the series but I think the hype of it has let me down a little, will have to see my final thoughts once I’ve finished! 💖

I love The Bone Season. It’s a little tough to get through the first few chapters but worth it. I have really wanted to read Six of Crows but the local library system doesn’t carry it. I know I’ll bite the bullet and order it eventually. Just sounds too good. The other one I’ve heard nothing but good things about is Patrick Rothfuss’ The Kingkiller Chronicles. Have you read those?

Thanks! I have read The Name of the Wind and absolutely loved it! I’ll be reading The Wise Man’s Fear soon. They’re such good books!

I used to be so good at keeping up with series and now I feel like I haven’t finished a series in forever. I actually didn’t finish a single series last year. I really should try and get at least a couple finished this year 😛 I haven’t read any of the ones you listed here, but The Bone Season, Six of Crows, and The Archived are all on my TBR. Great choices 🙂

Thanks! I think I only finished two series last year, but they were both in January. I need to get better at it, too.

My problem is always reading books in a series before the whole series has been released. I always forget about the later books coming out or lose interest in the series by the time they’ve released. 😛

I have the Bone Season and Six of Crows on my list as well! For the most part I enjoyed Queen of the Tearling series, but I know that the third book got mixed reviews. Happy reading! 🙂

The Three Musketeers trilogy. I’ve read the first one, but years ago. Now I need to reread it, then move on to Twenty Years Later and Red Sphinx! All for one!

Actually, a lot of your choices are the same ones I’d pick, too. I have Six of Crows already and need to buckle down to read it. The Queen of the Tearling is something that I’ve had an ecopy of for what seems like millennia, but I’ve yet to commit myself to reading that, too. I have a problem hahaha.

Same here. I might start that one in the next couple of weeks since the third book is coming out soon.

The Bone Season is at the top of my series list for this coming year, too. I don’t own it yet, but I have heard such good things about it. I hope you enjoy it, too! Excited to see what you think of it.
