Despite my rant-y post yesterday, I actually had a pretty good week. I managed to finish three books, all of which I liked, and saw a movie I was really looking forward to. Since I just got home from said movie, and it’s super late, I’m just going to get into it.
The first book I finished this week was The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. I loved this book so much! It completely renewed my interest in Greek mythology, something I’ve always loved. The writing was spectacular, the story was amazing, and I truly loved the characters. It was a romance, but it was like the anti-Romeo & Juliet, which I thought was amazing. Instant favorite! So thanks to everyone who recommended it to me!
After that, I was in the mood for another thriller, and picked up Before I Go to Sleep by S. J. Watson. I really enjoyed this book! It was exactly the type of thriller I was hoping for, and the twist at the end was great. I then went and watched the movie, which I was excited about because it starred Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth, and it wasn’t so great. If you’re interested in this one, definitely go for the book!
Finally, I finished Loner by Teddy Wayne. I have an ARC of this book, which comes out on the 13th (expect a review before then). This book was NOTHING like I was expecting, but I ended up liking it anyway. There was a lot more social commentary than I was expecting, which was strange for a book that reminded me so much of Caroline Kepnes’s You. Like I said, I will be doing a full review soon, so keep an eye out for that if you’re interested.
This week, I started listening to Felicia Day’s You’re Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) and I’m loving it so far! It just makes my inner nerd so happy. It’s also made me want to play more video games and rewatch both The Guild and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-long Blog. If you are a fan of Felicia Day, I think this is a great read. And if you’re not, you should definitely check her out.
I also just got home from seeing the movie adaptation of The Light Between Oceans and it was so good! I think they definitely did the book justice – Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender are perfect – and it was seriously one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen. If this doesn’t win the Oscar for cinematography, I will be pretty surprised. It was stunning! There were a few moments in the book that I missed in the film, but, for the most part, it was wonderfully faithful. Even if you haven’t read the book, I’d recommend seeing the film. It’s just a really great movie.
I think that’s it for this week! Let me know what book(s) you’re reading this weekend in the comments! And I hope you all have a nice Labor Day Weekend!
