I’ve been writing these weekly wrap up posts for close to a year now, and I’m pretty sure this is the first week I have to deliver the sad news that I didn’t read anything this week. Well, that’s not entirely true. I read a teensy tiny bit. But it almost isn’t even enough to qualify as reading. And I didn’t finish anything. Despite the fact that I have pretty good reasons (i.e. I have family staying with me from overseas and the last part of my final for this class is due tomorrow), I’m pretty disappointed.
So, instead of telling you what I’ve finished, I’ll just go through the books I’m still (kind of) working on. Right now, my priority is Moby Dick. Which I’m actually really enjoying, even though it is a very slow read. I wanted to finish it for the Reading New England book challenge in July, but since tomorrow is the last day of July, that’s just not going to happen. My goal now is to finish in the next two weeks. I just need time to sit and read, and a bit more motivation.
This week, I also read a few chapters of The Last Days of Night by Graham Moore, which is a novel about the legal battle between Edison and Westinghouse over who owns the patent for the lightbulb. So far, it’s excellent, and I’m excited to finish it. It’ll be released on the 16th, so I’ll have a review up before then. Side note: I just found out the movie rights were sold, and Eddie Redmayne is starring. So you know it’s good.
And, finally, I read a short story by Jhumpa Lahiri called “Interpreter of Maladies” – from the collection of short stories of the same name – although I read it in my textbook. (I was going to do a mini review, but that’s the only short story I read this week, so it’d be kind of lonely.) I really enjoyed it, and am definitely interested in reading more of Lahiri’s stories.
In other news, I splurged and bought a new planner this month! It’s from ban.do, and it’s amazing! I spent like an hour getting all organized and ready for August (when the planner starts), and I feel really good about it. If I haven’t already, I will probably be posting pictures on Instagram, so, if you’re interested, be sure to follow me there! (My username is advntrsofabibliophile.)
One other cool thing that happened this week was that I was in the audience of the America’s Got Talent live show on Monday night! My sister gets tickets for all these Hollywood events/tapings all the time (I’ve also been in the audience of The Voice), and it was really fun (even though I hate driving to LA). So even though I haven’t been reading much, I’ve been pretty busy. I’m looking forward to having a nothing day soon.
I think that’s it for this week! I hope you’re all having a great weekend! What are you currently reading?
