The Outlander Book Tag

I was tagged by The Undecided Bookworm to do this tag, and it looks like a lot of fun! I actually read Outlander at the beginning of last year and really enjoyed it. I haven’t gotten around to watching the TV show yet, and I have no plans to read the rest of the series, but it is still one of my favorite historical fiction books.

The only rule in this tag was to try and avoid answering with Outlander to these questions.

You touch some standing stones, and you get transported back in time. What year would you end up in?

I am a history nerd, so this is a ridiculously difficult question for me.

Claire is a good nurse. But what type of skill would you want that a fictional character excels at?

Um, magic. Just like Hermione Granger. Easy.

Jamie and Claire are the ultimate relationship goals. Who is your favorite fictional couple?

I think my favorite fictional couple is Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. I always get all warm and fuzzy when I read this book (or watch the movie).

The ending of Outlander was shocking. What is one book that you read that totally blew your mind?

Since it’s fresh on my mind, I’m going with A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. The ending may not have blown my mind (it was expected, but I liked it), but the rest of the book sure did!

Scotland has lots of castles and we see a few in Outlander. What fictional kingdom would you want to live in?

This is a difficult question, because every fictional kingdom I can think of is full of corruption, and I don’t want to die (at least not right away). I guess I’m going to go with Genovia from The Princess Diaries. I think it would be pretty cool to live in a country ruled by Mia Thermopolis, and it’s the safest fictional kingdom I can think of right now.

Outlander has some very steamy scenes. What is your favorite romance novel?

I don’t really read straight-up romance novels. But I do love classic romance. Like the kind Jane Austen and the Brontës write. So, probably Pride and Prejudice or Jane Eyre.

The Jacobite Rebellion is a huge plot point in Outlander. What is one of your favourite battles from a book?

Definitely the battle at the end of Morning Star by Pierce Brown. It’s a space battle on an epic scale with some ridiculously high stakes. Brown sure knows how to write battle scenes.

Jamie and Claire get married very unexpectedly. What fictional character would you like to marry on a whim?

I could go with Mr. Darcy, because Mr. Darcy. But if you’ve been reading this blog for any period of time, you’ll know I have a thing for Neville Longbottom, and have since I was about twelve. So, I’m going with Neville.

Scotland is a very beautiful place. What fictional world would you love to visit?

Yes it is! Can I go back now please? Anyway, the fictional world I would love to visit is, obviously, the wizarding world in Harry Potter. I just want to go to Hogwarts. I would also be okay with Ilvermorny (the North American version of Hogwarts).

If you could change the past, would you?

I’d like to say no, but, honestly, I wish I’d had the courage to do what I really want to do sooner, instead of trying to please other people. Not that I regret the path I took to get here, sometimes I just wish I’d started when I was a bit younger.

That’s it for this tag! I hope you enjoyed it! I don’t know how many people have done this tag – it seems to exist primarily on YouTube – but if you want to do it, then consider yourself tagged!
