Weekly Wrap Up – May 7

It is officially May! Which, for me, means that the end is in sight for my current class (which is my least favorite in grad school so far). I’m really excited about it. My final project is due tomorrow, and I will definitely be celebrating with a bottle glass of the really good wine my boss just gave me. It also means I am finally starting my fiction writing class (at the end of the month), which I am both excited and nervous about. I am specializing in fiction writing, so I saved it all for the end – I just have this class and my two thesis writing classes left. Keep your fingers crossed that I can actually do this! And, finally, May is exciting because it’s my birthday month! I will turn twenty-seven on the 31st, which makes me feel kind of old (even though it’s not that old). I’ve also been on a reading roll lately, so I’m hoping to read some really awesome books this month.

I have actually already finished two books. The first of which is The History Major by Michael Philip Cash. Not gonna lie, the only reason I picked this up (actually, requested it on NetGalley) is because I was a history major in college. The book is actually a novella about a college student who hates history, and, honestly, I didn’t enjoy it all that much. I will have a full review up on Monday if you’re interested.

The second book I finished this week was Anya’s Ghost by Vera Brosgol, which is a ya contemporary graphic novel with a bit of a supernatural twist. I really enjoyed this one! I thought the story was really fun and I loved the grayish-purple color palette. I’m pretty good at guessing plot twists, so I always love when they’re unexpected, and this one definitely was! If you’re looking to get into graphic novels, or just looking for a fun, quick read, I would highly recommend this one!

Even though I only finished those two books, I actually had a great reading week. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is because, as of yesterday, I am about three quarters of the way through War and Peace! It took me about 400 pages to actually got into the story, and I’ve just been flying through it. I’ve read Anna Karenina, but now I finally understand the genius of Tolstoy. If I get my homework finished, it’s looking like I’m going to finish it in the next couple of days – yesterday I read about 500 pages in one sitting. Which means I only have about 300 pages left. And Volume Three (there are four total) ended on kind of a cliffhanger. Plus, the fact that I’m so close to the end is definitely motivation to finally finish it. I feel like if I can read War and Peace, I can read anything.

That’s it for this week! I hope you’ve all had a great start to the month. What will you be reading this weekend?
