Weekly Wrap Up – April 16

weekly wrap up

You guys, I had a really amazing reading week this week. I finished a total of three books, and made decent progress on another two. I also started up on my book again – I hit a block a few weeks ago and took a break from writing (although I did a lot of brainstorming). The problem I had with my first partial draft was that one of the main story arcs just went way to fast, so I’m kind of using that draft as an outline and starting over. For me, that’s the easiest way to flesh out the details. Anyway, onto what I read this week.

The first book I finished was How to Build a Girl by Caitlin Moran, which I ended up really enjoying! It’s definitely not my usual genre, but I’m really glad I ended up picking it up. It’s definitely not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, and I get why the topics in this book are somewhat controversial, but I still liked it. I will have a review up sometime next week going into a bit more detail.

Then I read The Bad-Ass Librarians of Timbuktu by Joshua Hammer. I received an ARC of this book, and I was really excited about it. But it wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, and I was kind of disappointed; the synopsis lead me to believe it was going to be an exciting, action-packed book (even though it’s historical nonfiction), but it was more just a dry history book. I still thought it was an interesting story, so it might be worth a read. It’s due out Tuesday, so I will have a review up on Monday.

The last book I finished this week is The Battle of the Labyrinth by Rick Riordan. It’s been a while since I’ve read a Percy Jackson book, so I was really excited to get back into them. This one was one of my favorites in the series so far. I can’t wait to finish this series so I can read Riordan’s other books (I got a signed copy of the first Magnus Chase book last year, but I’ve been making myself wait to read it until I read Riordan’s other two series because I know there is some overlap and I don’t want to be spoiled).

If you haven’t guessed already, I started reading The Last Olympian as soon as I finished The Battle of the Labyrinth. I’m not very far in at the moment, but I will probably finish it in the next few days – the Percy Jackson books are really quick reads for me, and I’m excited to finally finish the series (this is the last book), so I think I’m going to fly though it as soon as I have time to read.

And, finally, I started listening to the audiobook of Caitlin Moran’s How to Be a Woman, and I absolutely love it! I’m about halfway though, and I seriously cannot get enough of her humor. I mostly listen to audiobooks on my commute to and from work, so I will definitely finish this one early next week.

That’s pretty much it for this week! I don’t think I’m going to get much done this weekend since I have a bunch of homework to do and I’m going to see my cousin’s high school production of Mary Poppins tonight. But I always have a book with me, so hopefully I’ll get something done.

What are you reading this weekend?

  1. Battle of the Labyrinth was one of my favourites too! Glad you had a great week! My reading week wasn’t very successful because it was exams week 😔 Hopefully we can read more next week!

    1. Thanks! I rarely get any reading done on exams weeks (except one time in high school when I reread all the Harry Potter books instead of studying…) Here’s to a great reading week for both of us!
