Playlist Shuffle Tag

playlist shuffle tag.jpg

I was tagged by The Book Orchids to do the Playlist Shuffle Tag. The rules are straightforward: go to your music library or any of your playlists (iTunes, YouTube, Spotify, etc.) and put it on shuffle. Then write down the first fifteen songs that come up. Easy!

For this tag, I decided to use the playlist I created for my current writing project, because I thought that might be fun. Does anyone else create playlists based on what they’re writing?

  1. Delilah by Florence and the Machine. This song has basically been on repeat for the last couple of days. It might be the unofficial theme song of the book I’m working on.
  2. Renegades by X Ambassadors.
  3. Glory and Gore by Lorde.
  4. Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Lorde. This list is basically all Lorde and Florence and the Machine.
  5. Demons by Imagine Dragons.
  6. Queen of Peace by Florence and the Machine.
  7. Ring of Fire (cover) by Lera Lynn.
  8. Bad Blood by Bastille.
  9. Breath of Life by Florence and the Machine.
  10. Foreigner’s God by Hozier.
  11. I See Fire by Ed Sheeran.
  12. Things We Lost in the Fire by Bastille. Third song on this list with the word “fire” in the title. Interesting…
  13. River Lea by Adele.
  14. Various Storms & Saints by Florence and the Machine.
  15. Ship to Wreck by Florence and the Machine. The entire first half of this album is on my writing playlist. So good!

Obviously, I’m a bit obsessed with the newest Florence & the Machine album at the moment, but I think it’s really helping me get into the right mood to write this particular project. I’m curious: what’s your favorite writing music?

  1. I always use playlists when I am writing stories. In fact, each character usually has their own playlist.
One time, I was writing a story that was set in the 1960s, and I had a playlist for practically every season of every year from 1960 through 1969. For me, that’s part of the fun of creating the world and the characters in it.

  2. I like listening to opera when I’m focusing on writing. When it’s bits and pieces here and there between laundry and letting the dog out and checking on dinner, it’s whatever phase I’m in at the moment: techno, dance, 90s alternative, or heavy metal.
