The Secret Life of a Book Blogger Tag

I found this tag (on Paperback Bri) whilst perusing WordPress the other day, and thought it would be pretty interesting, since it’s more about book blogging than about reading or books. Just something a little different. Also, I’m running out of ideas for posts that aren’t redundant, because for some reason, I don’t feel like writing book reviews lately. I know I have to, because I have quite a few books for review, and even more I want to share with you, but I’m enjoying finding ways to procrastinate. Anyway, here is the secret life of a book blogger tag:

How long have you been a blogger?

I started this blog at the end of December 2014 (I believe my first post was on December 30th). So a little over a year now.

At what point do you think you will stop?

Never! Just kidding, I have no idea. I’m definitely not planning on stopping anytime soon. And, I will admit that a little part of the reason I started this blog was to cultivate an author platform for if an when I ever publish a novel. So this blog may evolve, but I love it too much to stop.

What is the best thing?

Interacting with my readers and fellow bloggers. The readers I actually know outside of this community are the kind who read maybe one book a month. And most of my family and friends don’t read at all. So it’s nice to have people to talk about books with!

What is the worst thing? What do you do to make it okay?

Blogging burnout. Sometimes I don’t feel like posting. And sometimes I run out of ideas. I’m pretty good about giving myself a break once in a while (5-7 posts a week is a lot!), and you may have noticed I skipped a couple of days this month. I try not to stress about missing a day or two.

How long does it take to find/create pictures to use?

Not too long. I have a file on my computer of generic book pictures to use, and occasionally, I’ll take my own (though it takes a surprisingly long time to stage, shoot, and edit them, so I don’t do it often). Creating my header images takes me a while, but only because I’m picky about the font.

Who’s your book crush?

If you’ve been reading this blog for any amount of time, you’ll know it’s: Neville Longbottom from Harry Potter. Because I am a complete nerd. He’s been my book boyfriend since I was twelve. So almost fifteen years. I’d say we’re pretty committed.

What author would you like to have on your blog?

All of them! For real, though, I am dying to pick Pierce Brown’s brain. I’ve talked to him briefly a couple of times at book signings, etc., but I have so many questions!

What do you wear when you write your blog?

I am almost always in sweatpants and an oversized t-shirt from Mental Floss (which is basically my PJs) – they’re super nerdy and I love them. The one I’m currently wearing (while writing this) says: “I’m an English Major. You do the math.”

How long does it take you to prepare?

Sometimes like half an hour or so. Other times, it can take hours of research. Just depends on the post.

How do you feel about the book blogger community/culture?

I adore it! It’s become such a big part of my life (even though I don’t know any of you personally – but if you’re in SoCal, I’m totally down for meeting up!). The best part of blogging is talking to my fellow book bloggers, and reading their posts.

What do you think one should do to have a successful blog?

Having an original voice, posting regularly, and keeping your blog clean and professional looking.

Who do you tag?

All my fellow book bloggers! I haven’t seen this tag around too much, but it’s almost impossible to keep track of who’s done what anymore. But I’d love to see all of you do this one, so go for it!

    1. Hahaha. Yup, three times! (But I don’t live very far from LA, so that’s not hard to do.) He’s literally the nicest person EVER. (And just as hot in real life.) If you ever get the chance, definitely go meet him!
