I definitely just typed January in the header. Because how is it already February? Can this year go slower, please? Anyway, this week was a pretty good reading week. Not super eventful, but I did get a good amount of reading done.
The first thing I finished this week was Warm Up by V. E. Schwab, which is a short story/novella prequel to her novel Vicious, which was one of my favorite reads of last year. I really enjoyed it, and think it was definitely a good little addition to the story. If you’re interested, you can actually read it for free from Tor (her publisher) – just click here.
This week, I also read Worlds of Ink and Shadow by Lena Coakley. It’s a YA fantasy novel about the Brontë siblings. I’m a huge fan of the Brontës, and enjoyed the unique story. You can click here to read my full review.
Then I moved on to my reread of Pierce Brown’s Red Rising and Golden Son, in preparation for the release of the final book of the trilogy, Morning Star. I finished Red Rising on Saturday, and it was just as incredible the fourth time around – it’s definitely one of those books I will never stop rereading. Finally, I finished rereading Golden Son last night. And, I have to say, I’d forgotten so much about this book! I think the ending is just so shocking that it wiped everything else from my mind. I can’t get over how much I loved it!
I didn’t get as much reading done this week as I would have liked, because I didn’t do any reading at all on my two days off (I just didn’t feel like it for some reason). But, in addition to the books I finished, I also started reading Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo, which I’m absolutely loving. I am excited to continue reading it (and the rest of the trilogy), just as soon as I finish Morning Star.
Which brings me to a bit of exciting news: I will be attending the signing for Morning Star next Tuesday at Mysterious Galaxy in San Diego! Last year, I went to the Golden Son signing at Book Soup in LA, and it was so much fun! I can’t make it to the LA signing on Monday because of work (and SoCal traffic – it’ll take me the same amount of time to drive the 100 miles to San Diego as it will to drive 30 miles to LA), but I am really looking forward to Tuesday, and finally visiting Mysterious Galaxy, which I’ve heard so much about. If you’re going to be there, let me know – I would love to meet some of you! And if not, expect a review for Morning Star in the next week or two (Red Rising was actually the very first book I reviewed on this blog, so it’s kind of exciting for me)!
And, I think that’s it for this week. (I’m assuming you don’t want to hear me complain about grad school again – thank god this class is almost over!) Actually, one more little thing: Emma Watson just announced the February book pick for Our Shared Shelf, so I will be adding Alice Walker’s The Color Purple to my February TBR. I think I already have a copy of the book somewhere, but I also have the audiobook (read by Walker herself), and I haven’t decided whether I want to read or listen yet, but it’ll be happening.
What are you reading his week?
