Christmas TBR – Nostalgia and Holiday Reads

So, Christmas is this week. I’m still having trouble processing the fact that it’s December. This year has gone by way too quickly! And I have so much reading to do before the end of this year. Since I plan on doing a lot of reading over the holiday, I thought I’d share what books I’m planning on reading!

The Illustrated Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J. K. Rowling and Jim Kay. I actually already started this one, but I will be finishing it in the next couple of days, because it’s awesome! And it’s been at least a year since I’ve reread Harry Potter.

My True Love Gave to Me edited by Stephanie Perkins. So, fun story: I was planning on reading Little Women for my “book set during Christmas” challenge for the PopSugar Reading Challenge. And then I misplaced my copy – fine, I have two copies and I know where one of them is, and I have the ebook, so this is not really an excuse. To be honest, I don’t think I’ll have the time (or motivation) to get to it. So this is my substitute!

The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Anderson. I have the audiobook of this, and it’s only an hour, so I think it’ll be a nice break to sit and relax with this and a cup of tea.

The Titan’s Curse by Rick Riordan. This was my TBR jar pick of the month, and I just really like reading YA and middle-grade around Christmas, so I’m going to try to get to it this week.

And finally… I’d like to finish The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North, which I’ve started on audiobook, and am loving it! So much so that I went out and bought a hard copy so I could read it faster.

What book(s) are you planning on reading this week? What are your favorite holiday reads?

  1. Nice list! I bought the illustrated Harry Potter for my son for Christmas, but I’m sure I’ll end up reading it too. Right now I’ve picked up Life at Blandings by PG Wodehouse as a comfort read. I’m also in the middle of If the Oceans Were Ink: An Unlikely Friendship and a Journey to the Heart of the Quran. And when January hits I want to get started on Reading New England, but I’m not sure with what yet. Happy holidays!

    1. Thanks! I’m excited to see what everyone will be reading for the challenge! I think I’m going to attempt to do it in order, but we’ll see how that works out. For January, I’m going wth Olive Kitteridge, because my grandma won’t stop taking about the movie haha

  2. Titan’s Curse is really good. I wish I could get the illustrated edition of Harry Potter! 😍 I am going to check out the other books. They seem to be interesting!
My TBR is pretty small. I’m reading Made You Up by Francesca Zappia and I really love it and then I’m planning to read A Work In Progress by Connor Franta.

  3. I’m all about Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. Are you going to read the Lost Hero books too? So you have a TBR jar? I really like that idea… maybe something to try for 2016! I have six days in a row off work over Christmas and my goal before the new year is to read as many books as I can from the pile on our entryway table. There are five books there now — plus the two I’m reading — all ones I’m looking forward to. I’d love to start January with a blank slate!

    1. I’m definitely interested in the Lost Hero! I want to read all of Riordan’s books (I love mythology), but in order, just in case there are spoilers. The Magnus Chase one looks really cool! And yes, I made a TBR jar a while ago (I did themes instead of specific books), and it’s really helpful, because sometimes it can take me hours to decide what to read next. And good luck – I wish I could start 2016 with a clean reading slate haha!
