Last night, I wrote two completely unexpected things. I wrote the first chapter to a book that is not my NaNoWriMo book (which, unfortunately, doesn’t count towards my 50,000 words – okay, it could, but I’d only be cheating myself). It’s something that just popped into my head the other night, and is totally different than what I’m writing now. I just really wanted to get the first scene down before I forgot about it. And it did help me get back into the writing mood.
And then, I wrote the final chapter to my NaNo book. I did have every intention of writing it in order – but only because that’s what’s been working for me, up until this week. But I got about a third of the way through Chapter Ten, and was really not excited about it. I was planning on jumping only a little bit ahead, to one of the more climactic scenes, but then the ending just kind of happened. I’m considering kind of working my way backwards, at least for the moment, because I’m feeling a bit more motivated to write the end of the novel at the moment. I’m pretty happy with how the last chapter turned out.
Word count of the day (as of 8:45 pm): 0. Overall word count: 21,953. Full disclosure: I am currently watching Mulan on Netflix, and really don’t feel like writing tonight. Also, my eyes kind of hurt because I’ve spend the entire day on the computer. I think I’m going to get a few hundred words done and call it a day. I’m still ahead, so word count isn’t a problem. But I’m determined to get the badge for updating my word count thirty days in a row.
Side note: I started listening to Josh Groban’s new CD, Stages, the other day, because yes, I like both Josh Groban and show tunes. And I think listening to songs from Les Mis while I’m writing may have made my writing a bit more dramatic. Thank goodness for editing, because I have some chapters inspired by Jane Austen (they’re weirdly formal), some inspired by Jean Valjean, and others that seem a bit like all of the YA lit I’ve been reading lately. Apparently I’m very easily influenced.
