Non-Book Fall Favorites

I love fall! And it’s actually finally starting to feel like fall in Southern California – which means I can get away with a thin sweater a few days a week. And I actually wore a scarf a few weeks ago to celebrate the temperature actually being below 70 degrees. Sadly, though, I haven’t seen many changing leaves. The trees on my street are still bright green, though all the drought-caused dead lawns are a bit autumnal-looking. Okay, fine, they’re just brown.

Anyway, today, I thought I’d share a few of my fall favorites that are – gasp! – not books. These are things I break out every year around this time, and a few new obsessions.

Boots. I love boots! I have a pair that I literally wore every day for six months when I was living in Boston. In Southern California, it’s too hot for boots most of the time, so I wear them whenever I can. I just bought this Lucky Brand pair, and I’m completely obsessed!

Harney & Sons Hot Cinnamon Spice Tea. This is the tea of the autumn gods drink. It’s seriously amazing, and I can’t tell you how many people I’ve gotten hooked on this stuff. It’s spicy and a bit sweet, and the absolute perfect fall drink. You can buy it at Target or Amazon (and sometimes at Barnes and Noble).

Plaid. It took me a few years to recover from my time as a Catholic schoolgirl and finally embrace plaid as something I want to wear, and not something I have to wear. But now I can’t get enough! I actually have two pairs of plaid flats (both different colors of these Lucky Brand flats – which I own like eight pairs of). I’m also obsessed with plaid scarves – the one I used as a background in the picture is from Lucky Brand, but I also love this one and this one, depending on how cold it actually is where you live. Someday, I might even wear a plaid skirt again.

Candles. I love candles year-round, but I always stock up on fall scents. I adore pumpkin spice – here’s a great one from Bath and Body Works – apple, as long as it’s not too sweet (try this pumpkin/apple hybrid candle if you share my obsession), and outdoorsy fall scents, like Bath and Body Works’s Leaves. I also have a wax warmer, like this one, (because I have a pyromaniac cat), and really like the two dollar wax tarts from Walmart, especially the Chai Tea.

Pumpkin. If you haven’t already guessed, I love pumpkin. Pumpkin candles, pumpkin tea, pumpkin ravioli, pumpkin beer, pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin pie – you name it, I probably like it, or have at least tried it. (For the record, the pumpkin Oreos and M&Ms are kind of gross.)

Adele. I have been listening to Adele’s new single, Hello, on repeat for the couple of weeks. I’m listening to it as I write this post. And I’m sure when her new album comes out in a few weeks, the entire thing will be on repeat.

What are your fall favorites this year?
