I was tagged by Michelle from Book Adventures to do the Halloween Book Tag she just created! As you can probably already tell (if you’ve been reading my blog at all this month), I like reading scary books around Halloween. I have a tradition of reading Stephen King books on Halloween, and this year, I’m reading The Shining. I’m already about a quarter of the way through, and it’s just starting to get pretty creepy. I’ve held off seeing the movie until I read the book, so, while I have an idea of what’s going to happen (I mean, the movie poster is a spoiler), I think this book is going to surprise me. Let me know what you’re reading this Halloween, and enjoy the Halloween book tag!
Favourite scary must read for Halloween
The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. This book scared me more than any other book I’ve ever read. I was literally too terrified to get out of bed and walk down the hall to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. It’s hard to guess from the title, but it’s actually an epic tale about Dracula himself.
I think the cover of Stephen King’s newest book (it comes out November 3rd), The Bazaar of Bad Dreams is pretty damn scary. Not sure if you can see it, but there’s a grim reaper inside that guy’s head. Even the butterflies are creepy.
If you could pick any author to go trick or treating with, who would you pick?
I’m going to go with Victoria Schwab. Her books are just the right amount of scary, and I think she’s pretty genius. I think we’d get along really well and have a lot of fun!
If you could dress up as any bookish character for Halloween, who would you be?
This is a hard one! Hermione from Harry Potter is the easy choice, basically because I just want to be her in real life. But I also think it’d be cool to be Mustang from Red Rising or Kell from A Darker Shade of Magic (his solid black eye alone is pretty creepy).
If you could find anything, from any book, in your trick or treat stash, what would you hope to find?
A magic wand, but only if I’m actually able to use it. Or an invisibility cloak. How awesome would it be to sit and read for hours without anyone bothering me?
In what fictional world would you like to go trick or treating?
I think it would be really fun to go trick or treating in the Shire.
What book villain would you not like to meet alone in a dark alley on Halloween?
Voldemort. Or a dementor. Because I’d really like to stay alive and keep my soul.
Would you rather dress up as a vampire, zombie, werewolf or a shadowhunter?
Honestly, I’m not too big on any of these things, but I think it might be fun to do zombie makeup.
Pick a candy (just one) from Harry Potter that you would love to find in your stash.
I’ve actually tried Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans. And they are just as gross as they sound. But I think it’d be cool to have a stash of Skiving Snackboxes, particularly the Puking Pastiles, so I can get out of doing things.
What is your favourite Halloween candy?
I’ve always been the kid who likes the weird candy my sisters won’t eat. My all-time favorites are Swedish Fish, but I’d definitely be willing to trade a Snickers or Reese’s in exchange for Almond Joy or Mounds. Or Milky Way Midnight.
That was a really fun tag! I’m tagging anyone who wants to do this tag – just link back to the post so I can check out your answers!
