While procrastinating yesterday, I came across this 30 day writing challenge, and thought I’d give it a go. If anything, it’s good writing practice for me and you’re guaranteed a new post from me every day for a month! (I will still post reviews, etc. along with the challenge.) I considered the challenge on September 1st so that it’s a “real” one month challenge, but I know I’m going to be bogged down with schoolwork towards the end of the month, so I’m starting now. Look at me being a rebel. Day one of the writing challenge is to write about ten things that make me happy. So here goes…
Books. This should be fairly obvious. Nothing is better than curling up with a book and a cup of tea and letting your brain escape . Reading is just the best.
My cats. I love my cats. They’re ridiculous and crazy and sometimes they can be assholes, but they make me happy.Because when you’re having a bad day and a ball of fur decides to take a nap on you (or whack you in the face for absolutely no reason), it’s really hard to be mad. Just look at that face!
School. Yes, I’m a huge nerd who loves school. If I could get paid for going to school for the rest of my life, I would totally do it! I was out of school for about two years between college and grad school and I honestly craved schoolwork. I came pretty close to writing an essay just for fun. Which is probably the nerdiest thing ever.
My Job. I actually love my job right now! It’s just a part time nanny job, but I get to spend two to three days a week with the cutest baby ever, and I’m working for one of my closest friends. It’s exhausting, but it doesn’t even feel like work.
Travel. I am kind of addicted to traveling. I wish I had the money to do it more often, but I enjoy it when I can. I really love exploring new places and learning about different cultures. Every time I visit someplace new, I fall in love.
Cold Weather. Despite the fact that I live in what is technically desert, I love the cold. I could probably be okay with year-round snow. I love bundling up in sweaters and blankets and sitting in front of the fire with a book and a cup of tea. One day, I will move somewhere that doesn’t regularly hit ninety degrees in January.
Author Events. This past year, I’ve made an effort to go to more author events. I love getting to know the industry I hope to one day be a part of, and they are so much fun! I’ve been to events for David Mitchell and Pierce Brown and in November, I’m going to an event with Neil Gaiman. I am ridiculously excited!
Tea. Nothing is quite as comforting as a cup of tea (though coffee comes close). My favorites are Earl Grey and Harney & Sons Hot Cinnamon Sunset – if you haven’t tried it, you need to!
Netflix. If you haven’t already guessed, I’m a bit of a homebody. And sometimes I just need to binge on Parks & Rec for twelve hours at a time.
History. I was a history major in college, and I still love reading about history and exploring historical sights and museums. I’ve been trying to read a bit more history lately, and am planning on reading Alan Turing: The Enigma by Andrew Hodges soon.
